Light stand

project overview
This project explores how design can support healthier sleeping habits by addressing phone overuse before bed. Through user research, interviews, workshops, and behavioural experiments, we investigated the psychological and environmental factors that negatively impact sleep quality. The outcome is a non-digital bedside device designed to gently encourage disconnection from smartphones, replacing compulsive habits with a calmer nighttime ritual. The device works by physically separating the phone from the user while integrating essential bedside functions, making phone use less immediate but still accessible if needed. By acting as a behavioural cue rather than a restriction, it reduces anxiety around disconnection and supports a more intentional transition to sleep. The project combines behavioural theory, user-centred research, and sustainable product design to improve everyday wellbeing
