Designing Belonging

Urban furniture in piazza puntoni's park

project overview

Designing belonging is an urban design project developed as my master’s thesis, where I led the research, participatory workshops, and design process from concept to final proposal. Grounded in gender studies and inclusive design, the project reimagines Piazza Puntoni in Bologna an underused transitional space by addressing issues of safety, visibility, and access in public space. The outcome is a modular urban furniture system that uses color, tactility, and diffuse lighting to create a welcoming environment that encourages social interaction, community presence, and everyday use, transforming a space of passage into a place of inclusion and shared comfort.
