Feel the Beach

Interactive guidelines for accessible beaches

project overview

Feel the Beach is a co-creation toolkit that translates qualitative user research into tangible design tools for architects and planners, bridging accessibility needs and architectural decision-making. Rather than treating accessibility as a checklist, the project focuses on embodied experience, helping decision-makers understand how design choices affect real users. The final outcome is a physical toolkit composed of four modular 3D-printed hexagons and a wooden site map. Each hexagon integrates three layers: a design proposal, a material sample paired with a real user quote, and contextual information on specific accessibility needs. Two hexagons expose existing issues (parking and restrooms), while two propose solutions, including an accessible water-entry system and a sensory-friendly relaxation area. By combining hands-on interaction and storytelling, Feel the Beach functions as a conversation and decision-making tool, enabling more empathetic and informed approaches to inclusive public-space design.
